Biodiversity in Botanical Art

Cover image by Lombardi, Maria – Lycopersicon lycopersicum

POMODORO_Lombardi

A Botanical Art exhibition to celebrate the diversity in plant crops closely related to humans, in conjunction with Botanical Art Worldwide 2025.

The 73 exhibits, coming from all over Italy, represent the great variety of food plants selected over time, as opposed to the scarce variety currently cultivated worldwide.

The plant specimens on display, often ancient and historic varieties, are cultivated in small quantities and are therefore in danger of disappearing. In the context of an ever-increasing global population, profound climate change and habitat loss, the discovery and promotion of plant genetic diversity is of great importance and is conveyed in the exhibition through the beauty of the works, and the commitment and dedication of those who preserve and protect the seeds of our future.

📖 The exhibition catalogue is available at the MUSE Shop or at the Castel Belasi bookshop.

Exhibition curated by MUSE and CABI – Committee for Italian Botanical Art.

The exhibition will be held by MUSE at Castel Belasi, a contemporary art centre for ecological practices and thinking set in a medieval castle in the Alps, thanks to a multi-year agreement for the development of joint projects under the banner of dialogue between contemporary art and scientific research on sustainability issues. Castel Belasi, directed by Stefano Cagol, is an institution of the municipality of Campodenno.
